I have mood swings and trouble sleeping. Mom suggested black cohosh but I’m only 35. Would it help?

Your mother might be suggesting black cohosh to you because it helps to balance hormones and the symptoms you describe are often hormone-related. You don’t mention how long you have had these symptoms, however, so consult a health care practitioner if these symptoms are severe or persistent to be sure they are not from other causes.

Black cohosh is generally safe and is a trusted herb for reducing hormone-related and menopause symptoms. Peri-menopause can start as early as 30 years of age for some women and black cohosh’s clinical value has been well documented by the German Commission E (a regulatory agency that evaluates the benefits and properties of herbal remedies). This herb can provide convenient, safe and effective help for hot flashes and other uncomfortable symptoms of perimenopause and menopause. Black cohosh is not recommended for women who are trying to conceive.
