Why should I drink green tea? What makes it so ‘healthy’?

Green tea is one of the world’s most popular beverages. It has a reputation for being both calming and energizing. Green tea extract contains plant substances called polyphenols, specifically catechins, which have antioxidant and antimicrobial capacity. It may help protect us from serious diseases and has been shown to improve cholesterol balance and blood pressure. It may even inhibit the bacteria that cause tooth decay.

Studies have shown that green tea extract can help with weight loss as it speeds up metabolism, without the side effects that may be experienced with high caffeine “fat burners”. The L-theanine in green tea is used to reduce stress and this can also help a person avoid stress-related overeating.
