One of the things that sets Natural Factors apart from others in our industry is the breadth of knowledge represented by the scientific experts that work with us. Gathered from around the world and chosen for their unique training and background, our scientists and quality control specialists are recognized experts in their fields.
 
We have over 50 scientists working on staff at our various facilities. Featured below is a sample of our scientific team. 
 
Michael Murray, ND
Dr. Murray is one of the world’s leading authorities on natural medicine. He has published almost 30 books on health related topics, and his research into the health benefits of proper nutrition is the foundation for a best-selling line of vitamins and supplements at Natural Factors, where he is Director of Product Development. He is a graduate, faculty member, and serves on the Board of Trustees of Bastyr University in Seattle, Washington.
 
Chuck Chang, BSc (Chemistry/Biochemistry) - Research & Development Coordinator
Chuck Chang graduated from the Combined Honours Chemistry and Biochemistry Program at UBC. Chuck’s experience in analyzing and isolating active ingredients in herbs allows him to comment on the scientific merit of product claims, assess the potentials for various herbs and to make suggestions for planned chemical and clinical studies. 
 
Jan Van Slama, PhD – Research and Development Scientist
Dr Slama is a gifted PhD from Europe who heads our Quality Control and Research labs and is actively involved in Phytopharmacological research.
 
Tom Tardi, MSc
Tom Tardi is the Senior Vice President of Operations and Chief Operating Officer for Natural Factors. He has worked for over 30 years in the supplements industry and has a Masters of Science degree. Tom was Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer for Vita Health Products/Leiner of Winnipeg, Manitoba.
 
Ron Smith, MSc
Ron Smith is the Vice President of Quality Systems for Natural Factors. He brings 18 years experience at management level in the functional areas of quality control, quality assurance and validation in pharmaceutical and nutritional products manufacturing environment. Ron received his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Lethbridge. He completed research in the areas of Synthetic Organic Chemistry and Analytical Method Development in the field of Carbohydrate Chemistry for Master of Science program, Department of Chemistry.
 
Henry Gan, MSc - Director of Product Development and Formulation
Henry Gan has considerable experience in the development of new products, modification of existing products, transfer of new process technologies to production, working knowledge of process validation, Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP). Henry has over 30 years experience in product formulation/development, process development, manufacturing and quality assurance.
