Our Scientific Community
In addition to our in-house scientific expertise, we confer with scientists and researchers at universities and research centres around the world. Many of them have been instrumental in developing new standards, procedures or testing methodologies that have contributed greatly to the research and developing of safe, efficacious natural health products.
Dr. Rudy Bauer, PhD - Head of Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences
Dr. Rudy Bauer of the Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of Graz Austria, is the world’s foremost expert medicinal plants and phytochemcicals. He has contributed greatly to Factors Group’ ground-breaking research in herbal standardization and in the development of patented Echinacea products.
Dr. Rob O’Brien, PhD - Director Okanogan Regional Chemical Analysis Centre (ORCAC), UBC Okanogan
Dr. O’Brien has 20 years experience in the area of mass spectrometry and chemical analysis. He is a recognized expert on ionization techniques and ion sources. He was instrumental in creating the Okanagan Regional Chemical Analysis Centre (ORCAC) that is now a core facility at the new UBC Okanogan campus.
Dr. Tapan Kumar Basu, PhD
Dr. Basu holds degrees from universities around the world in Biological Science, Veterinary Medicine, Nutrition and Biochemistry. He has published works on a variety of nutritional subjects and has received many awards for his work in Nutritional Sciences.
Dr. Thomas Crook III, PhD
Dr. Crook received a doctorate in psychology from the University of Maryland, and spent fourteen years as a clinical research psychologist and research program director at the National Institute of Mental Health. For the past 14 years he has directed various private research programs.
Dr. Timothy Lee, PhD
Dr. Lee maintains an active research program in the area of immune modulation and immunopathology The majority of his research is focused on solid organ transplantation but he has maintained his interest in infectious diseases and currently has projects examining immune modulation to limit the growth and pathogenesis of intracellular pathogens. Dr. Lee has been awarded the “Professor of the Year” award by the Dalhousie Medical Students three times in the last 10 years.
Dr. Arya M. Sharma, MD, FRCPC
His research focuses on the environmental and genetic causes of obesity and an evidence-based approach to managing cardiovascular disease and metabolic problems in obese patients. He is also working on the development of novel interventions for treating obese patients and people with a propensity for obesity. He is a member of the German, American and International Societies of Hypertension and Nephrology and a fellow of the Council for High Blood Pressure Research of the American Heart Association.
Dr. Thor Arnason, PhD
Dr. Arnason is Professor of Biology at the University of Ottawa. Arnason’s laboratory and research group has had a long interest in phytochemistry and biological activity of medicinal plants. This research program ranges fro ethnobotanical studies and drug discovery from tropical plants to collaboration with the North American herbal industry on commercial phytomedicines. In addition the lab has developed published quality control methods for assessment of active principals in elethero, echinacea and other species.
Dr. Parris M. Kidd, PhD
Dr. Kidd is an internationally recognized expert in nutritional biomedicine, including dietary supplement product development, documentation, labeling, quality control, and regulatory compliance. He has authored more than a dozen books and publications on the benefits and efficacy of vitamins and other nutrients. Dr. Kidd has written and lectured extensively on the uses of these phospholipid nutrients to support attention, memory and mood and to salvage declining brain function.
