Feature Summary
Standardized green tea extract contains highly purified polyphenols rich in natural green tea catechins. These polyphenols act as natural antioxidants and antimicrobial agents. Polyphenols have been shown to inhibit the bacteria that cause tooth decay.
Polyphenols enhance our antioxidant defense systems by stimulating antioxidant enzyme activity such as glutathione peroxidase and catalase. They inhibit some enzyme systems involved in cancer initiation and inhibit some enzyme activities involved in tumour promotion.
Cardiovascular protection: Australian researchers report that the phenolic compounds in green tea may protect from LDLs from oxidation better than vitamin C.
Tooth decay and periodontal disease control: Studies show that green tea catechins can destroy cariogenic (cavity-causing) bacteria. The research shows that green tea catechins not only suppress the formation of plaque by cariogenic bacteria but also kill the bacteria themselves. Studies show that green tea extract have a deodorizing effect, reducing bad breath and even fecal odour.
Weight loss Researchers showed that green tea extract decreases the digestion of fat in the stomach and intestine by nearly 40% in an experimental system that mimicked in vivo conditions. Researchers found that green tea extract stimulated thermogenesis better than caffeine alone, and also potentiated the thermogenic action of epinephrine better than caffeine or ephedrine. Results showed that 266 extra calories were burned per day while taking the green tea product. The green tea extract also did not increase heart rate, a problem found in most thermogenic products.
