Magnesium is vital to hundreds of enzyme reactions and has more health benefits attributed to it than any other mineral including calcium. Magnesium, along with calcium, is a shock-absorber, helping to prevent the body from experiencing excessive stress.

Magnesium is an important electrolyte which helps the absorption of calcium, phosphorus, sodium and potassium. Magnesium is required for the B vitamins to work properly and is absolutely necessary for the utilization of thiamine.

Magnesium is necessary for growth and development, wound healing, immune system function, temperature regulation and many activities of the brain and nervous system. Shaky hands, nervousness, muscle spasms, irregular or rapid heartbeat, all respond favourably to magnesium.

Ingredients

Each tablet contains:
Magnesium (HVP* chelate).............................125 mg
*HVP: hydrolyzed vegetable protein (rice)

Recommended Adult Dose

2-4 capsules daily or as directed by a health care practitioner. Keep out of the reach of children.

Contraindications

• There are many drugs that appear to adversely affect magnesium status. Most notable are many diuretics, insulin, and digitalis.
• A high calcium intake and a high intake of dairy foods fortified with vitamin D results in decreased magnesium absorption.
• If you suffer from a serious kidney disorder or are on hemodialysis, do not take magnesium supplements unless directed by a health care practitioner.
• People with severe heart disease (such as high-grade atrioventricular block) should not take magnesium (or potassium) unless directed by a health care practitioner.

Additional Information

Children: Suitable for children at the level of the Recommended Dietary Allowance:
Infants: 0-0.5 year 40 mg, 0.5-1 year 60 mg
Children: 1-3 years 80 mg, 4-6 years 120 mg, 7-10 years 170 mg

Pregnancy and Nursing: Considered safe during pregnancy and lactation at the Recommended Dietary Allowance level of 350 mg daily.

Seniors: Elderly persons who take many magnesium-containing laxatives and antacids may develop toxicity symptoms.
