Alfalfa (Medicago sativa) is a superior source of vitamins, minerals, and protein and is considered an estrogen precursor. It is an excellent source of chlorophyll, vitamins B1, B6, B12, E, K, beta carotene, amino acids, and plant enzymes. Its deep roots absorb minerals that other plants are unable to access, such as silicon, magnesium, potassium, iron, phosphorus, and other trace minerals.

Alfalfa also contains saponins, sterols (bactasitosterol, stigmasterol, and alpha-spinasterol), flavonoids, and coumarins. The coumarins and isoflavones exhibit estrogenic activity. Termed as the great healer, it has been traditionally used to treat stomach ailments, digestive disturbances, and arthritis.

Ingredients

Each tablet contains:
Alfalfa powder (organic) (Medicago sativa) (leaf)........................650 mg

Recommended Adult Dose

5 tablets 3 times daily at mealtime or as directed by a health care practitioner.

Contraindications

• Interacts with warfarin (Coumadin^®), a drug that is often given to patients with a history of heart attacks, transient ischemic attacks (mini strokes), and strokes because it blocks blood clotting. Consult your health care practitioner prior to use.
• Warfarin works by interfering with the actions of vitamin K.
• Since alfalfa can be a good source of vitamin K, it is important for people taking Coumadin to avoid vitamin K supplementation, including multivitamins containing vitamin K, as well as alfalfa and other green-leafy vegetables such as kale and parsley.

Additional Information

Children: Suitable for children at one-half the adult dosage.

Pregnancy and Nursing: Alfalfa seeds are reputed to affect the menstrual cycle and to be lactogenic, therefore, alfalfa seeds should not be ingested during pregnancy or lactation. Although the safety of alfalfa leaf has not been established, it is probably acceptable for use during pregnancy and lactation provided that doses do not exceed the amounts normally ingested as a food.
