Features and benefits
The simple act of breathing can be difficult for people suffering from respiratory problems. One of the most important features of healthy airways is the elasticity and fluidity of the normal mucous secretions in the respiratory tract. If the mucus is too thick, the airways become partially blocked, resulting in difficulty breathing.
Modern science and traditional medicine have been combined in Natural Factors Lung, Bronchial & Sinus Health, a cutting-edge formulation that helps thin clogged mucus and clear it from the sinuses and airways, allowing you to breathe easier.
This synergistic blend contains seven ingredients that work together to bring safe, effective relief from respiratory symptoms. N-acetyl-cysteine (NAC) and bromelain break down thick mucus, mullein helps dilute the mucus and make it runnier, then mullein, NAC, and wild cherry bark combine to expel the mucus from the respiratory tract. Marshmallow and mullein soothe inflamed mucous membranes, while ivy leaf and marshmallow work together to calm the coughing reflex.
Lung, Bronchial & Sinus Health can help people with asthma, bronchitis, sinusitis, emphysema, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and even the common cold. It can also relieve symptoms of hay fever or irritation from polluted air.

How it works
N-acetyl-cysteine (NAC) is derived from a naturally occurring amino acid, cysteine. NAC breaks down mucoproteins, thereby reducing the viscosity (thickness) of bronchial and lung secretions. Bromelain is an enzyme from the pineapple plant (Ananas comusus) that breaks down proteins, thereby reducing the viscosity of mucus. It also helps clear the airways and suppress coughs.
Marshmallow (Althaea officinalis) root extract contains a polysaccharide, rhamnogalacturonan, which inhibits the cough reflex and modulates airway reactivity. Mullein (Verbascum thapsus) contains mucins that reduce inflammations of the upper respiratory tract and saponins that dissolve phlegm and encourage expectoration. Wild cherry tree (Prunus serotina) bark contains hydrocyanic acid, which helps loosen and clear mucus from the lungs.
Horehound (Marrubium vulgare) contains a medicinally active compound called marrubiin that exerts a direct stimulatory effect on the secretions of the bronchial mucosa. Ivy (Hedera helix L.) leaf extract reduces asthma attacks and improves COPD by reducing bronchial spasms and improving respiratory secretions.
Herbal expectorants which expel mucus (such as extracts of wild cherry bark, mullein, and horehound) work best when combined with mucolytics which break down mucus (such as bromelain and NAC), and with demulcents which soothe irritated mucous membranes (such as extracts of marshmallow and mullein).
